Rahul Gandhi Meets Pahalgam Victim Lt. Narwal’s Family Amid Online Abuse Against Himanshi
New Delhi: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (April 6) met the family of Lt. Vinay Narwal who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack last month.
Following the meeting with the family in Haryana’s Karnal, Gandhi said that their “courage and bravery even in the midst of immense grief is a message for the country - we have to remain united.”
Gandhi’s visit comes as Narwal’s wife Himanshi has been subject to vicious trolling and online abuse after she denounced the hate campaign against Muslims and Kashmiris following the Pahalgam attack in which 26 civilians lost their lives.
“We don’t want people going against Muslims or Kashmiris. We want peace and only peace,” Himanshi had said in a now viral video.
While the online abuse being hurled at her has been condemned by the National Commission for Women (NCW), no meaningful action has been announced by the body.
Following the meeting with the family, Gandhi said that the whole country stands with the families of the martyrs and that the nation is awaiting justice.
“I met the bereaved family of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal ji who was martyred in the Pahalgam attack and shared their grief and consoled them. Their courage and bravery even in the midst of immense grief is a message for the country – we have to remain united,” he said.
“The whole country stands with the families of the martyrs. The opposition fully supports the government – the culprits should be punished in such a way that no one dares to raise an eye towards India. Today, the entire nation along with the victim families is waiting for justice.”
Last week, Gandhi had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must not “dilly dally” or “waste time” and act now in the aftermath of the terror attack.
